PM Modi will interact with leading doctors across the country through video conferences on the Covid-19 situations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with leading doctors on Monday across the country via video conference o prevailing Covid-19 situations. The interaction is scheduled to take place at 4.30pm.

PM Modi will also discuss the situation with top pharmaceutical companies through a video conference at 6 pm.

On the day of the meeting, India reported 273,810 new Covid-19 infections, the highest daily increase since the pandemic began, and now more than 15 million infections have been reported, second only to the United States in total.

The Union health ministry also reported that in the past 24 hours, 1,619 people have died of Covid-19, causing more than 178,769 casualties. India’s death toll is second only to the United States, Brazil and Mexico, ranking fourth.

Although it has a population of nearly 1.4 billion, its population is more than any other country. Many state governments, including the hardest-hit state of Maharashtra, have announced a series of containment measures to check the spread of infection.

On Wednesday night, most industries, businesses, and public places will be closed for 15 days.

Due to the surge in the number of Covid-19 cases, the national capital Delhi has also been locked down for a week since Monday night. According to Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of India, in the past 24 hours, Delhi has reported 25,462 cases and 161 deaths.

He said at a press conference that Delhi is facing a shortage of oxygen and certain drugs.

“I do not say that the system has collapsed, but it has reached its limits,” Kejriwal said, adding that harsh measures were necessary to “prevent a collapse of the health system”.

The Union Ministry of Health said on Monday that Maharashtra and Delhi are among the 10 states that report new Covid-19 cases every day. The other states in the list are Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Data from the Ministry of Health show that the total number of active cases in India has reached 19,29,329, which currently accounts for 12.81% of the country’s total infections.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi hosted an important meeting on the Covid-19 situation at 11.30 in the morning. The meeting was convened after several chief ministers complained about shortages of essential supplies such as oxygen supplies and medicines and asked the center to intervene.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi reviewed the Covid-19 situation in Varanasi. During the discussion, the Prime Minister emphasized that everyone should follow the “distance of two yards and mask is essential”.
