The death of the legendary actor Vivek this morning has plunged the entire Tamil film industry and thousands of Tamil people into deep shock and sadness. The end reportedly came at 4.35 am at the SIIMS Hospital in Chennai where he was being treated in the ICU after suffering a massive heart attack on April 16th. According to the doctor, the actor had a 100% blockage in the LAD (Left Anterior Descending Artery) vessel, which caused a massive cardiac arrest.
He is 59 years old and survived by his wife Arul Selvi and two daughters Tejaswani and Amritha Nandhini. He lost his 13-year-old son Prasanna to dengue fever in 2015, which made him devastated.
Vivek known as Chinna Kalaivanar, started his film career in K. Balachander’s “Manathil Urudhi Vendum” in 1987 and has appeared in 220 films in his career for nearly 35 years. He starred with most of Kollywood’s top stars, including Rajinikanth, Vijayakanth, Sathyaraj, Prabhu, Karthik, Vijay, Ajith, Suriya, Vikram, Simbu and Dhanush. He has also played heroes in the acclaimed films “Naanthaan Bala, Palakaatu Madhavan and Velai Pookkal”.
Vivek won the Padma Shri Award from the Government of India for his contribution to the film. In addition, he has also won awards from other national and international festivals. As soon as Vivek’s career took off, he was very active in social work, and he was inspired by former Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam. At the request of the late leader, he planted millions of trees throughout the state of Tamil Nadu and initiated and presided over numerous measures to turn the state into a green area.
In terms of movies, Vivek’s last movie released was the super-popular single “Dharala Prabhu (Dharala Prabhu)” with Harish Kalyan (Harish Kalyan). His upcoming films include “Yadhum Oore Yavarum Kelir” starring Vijay Sethupathi, and he also collaborated with Kamal Haasan to shoot some shots in the first film Shankar’s “Indian 2”.
